The JtR 125 project is developing an innovative documentary-game hybrid that explores historical and media dimensions of the Jack the Ripper murders i

Jack the Ripper anniversary

This is an image the JtR project is using to announce the coming game/doco on the 125th anniversary of Mary Kelly's murder this Saturday, Nov 9th (1888 - 2013). It is a modified from an illustration from one of the sensationalist newspapers that flourished in this period (thanks in no small part due to the prolonged 'East End Murderer' story that ran throughout the later part of 1888 and well into the following year -- not to mention all the way into the present day 125 years later. We are busy developing the design, including the visual look of the game/world, key narrative/historical elements, locations and avatars, and the game mechanics, so that we can engage the historical experts we have lined up to help us make the project. We are after their input into the documentary value and credibility of the experience we are designing for the user. Our experts will give us material and knowledge about forensics and criminal investigation, the social context and conditions in the East End at the time, prostitution and sex trafficking, among other things. November will be a busy time and hopefully set up the game build in December.
