Prompts to help you progress your idea

Our long standing friend and collaborator Seth Honnor is working from Exeter University to help people across the region develop their ideas to submit them to Sandbox. All the REACT team are experiencing a need for researchers to think more about the potential audience/demand for their ideas, so Seth has written up a series of useful prompts for academics thinking of applying:

What is the knowledge you want to transfer?

Describe the knowledge area and the specific knowledge/research. Try and be brief and open – so that, for example, a Creative Economy partner may access it easily. Consider the value of that knowledge in a broad academic context - is it unique? Is it world leading? Is it of particular value in a certain context or locality? Is it valued or used outside its academic context already?

Who is the target audience you want to transfer the knowledge to?

Be specific rather than the world in general. Is it pre-lingual children? Commuters on a certain stretch of the M25? Men of a certain diaspora? People walking on the South West Coast Path? Etc.

What is the means by which the knowledge is engaged with? What’s the platform?

Is it a game? Is it a performance? Is it audio? Sight based? Does it/how does it use technology to create a meaningful experience that has impact?

Where is the audience when they engage with the knowledge? What’s the context?

Again, be specific and think about how the engagement might best leave an impression or have an impact on the audience. How will they come across this? If it is an App how will people know or care that it exists? If it is a performance or exhibit why will they engage? Is the Audience on a plane? Walking down the Street? In a shop? At home in front of the TV? At school?

Who is involved? Academics and Creative Economy Partners.

Think about the reasons people are involved and why it makes a convincing argument for them to be involved – Are they leading specialists in that field? What is you partner’s track record? What do your partners bring to the project?
